Kickstarter: What is it? Information about our latest campaign and more!

You may have seen on our social media several teasers of some up coming concepts for our 'Heaven Sent' Kickstarter. We've shown you star themed pins, celestial washi and more heavenly goodness but unlike our usual releases this isn't ready to buy just yet...

For an ambitious project like this (and to help us gauge the process for a future plan) we have turned to Kickstarter. The crowdfunding platform.

If you've never heard of Kickstarter before it's a place where artists, businesses and creatives can pitch an idea or product that they wish to bring to life. They present their objects, funding goal and deadline. In turn people pledge to their goal for incentives and rewards based around the pitch. For us: the pitch is to bring these magical items to reality and the rewards are being able to grab the items earlier than anyone else for a discounted price.

But how does it all work?

Well, Kickstarter is an 'All or nothing' platform. If the funding goal isn't met than nothing proceeds and no money is taken from pledgers.  If the goal is met, than the items can be created and everyone who has pledged gets the goals they've funded towards. For example: If we created a single enamel pin project where the reward you could pledge towards was the pin itself and the target was hit, then they would be put into production and once crafted, checked and graded everyone who pledged would receive one. It works almost like a pre-order but if the goal isn't met than nothing is made and no funds are taken. All or nothing.

Our campaign will be offering four unique enamel pins and 3 unique washi tape designs in 2 different colorways: a grand total of 10 items. To help make things easier we've decided to cover all of the items in our funding goal. Some creators will create a lower funding goal and different items will be added if they get more funding (for example: a goal of £500 but the amount of money they have from pledges is £1000, they might make other items a possibility). We've decided not to take this route to keep things simple for both ourselves and anyone who want's to pledge.

So why Kickstarter?

Production for these items is really expensive so to use a crowdfunding platform helps us afford to create these pieces and see their interest at the same time. If a project is unsuccessful and doesn't hit funding, we haven't taken the risk in potentially creating items no one likes. Alternatively, if successful than the items are made. As a small business any investment is scary but for us, to use Kickstarter the process is less risky while still retaining the opportunity to interact with our community and for lovers of Haus items to grab something. Makes sense right?

It's also a pretty popular platform, they themselves proudly say: 'Since our launch, on April 28, 2009, 21 million people have backed a project, $6.5 billion has been pledged, and 217,435 projects have been successfully funded.' - That's a lot of creativity being put out into the world!

At the moment our Kickstarter hasn't launched yet but you can keep an eye on it here: Heaven Sent Kickstarter . This is our pre-launch page that will turn into the page where you can see the goals, all of our important information and even pledge on Sunday the 27th March at 6pm. Our campaign will be active for 18 days ending on the 13th of April! You can pledge and change your pledge at any point during that time: you can add items, remove items and even cancel if you like.

We hope that we'll be able to bring our project to life using Kickstarter's platform and your support, these are items we've crafted that we think would make amazing additions to any journal, jacket or pin board: and we hope you will too! We can't say how the project will go once launched - we've got our fingers crossed that you will love it but I guess we'll have to wait and see! Hopefully this makes understanding the whole process easier too.

As always, thank you for reading!
